Diego Maradona had injections before World Cup to slow effects of arthritis as footage shows him barely able to walk during training with Dorados

Matias Morla admitted Maradona, 57, had gel-like fluid injected into his knee joints at a hospital in Colombia ahead of the World Cup in a procedure used to slow the onset of arthritis.

The news follows worrying footage of the star struggling to walk during training.

Maradona, currently managing Mexican second division club Dorados, was spotted limping alongside right-hand man Luis Campos, staggering across the grass.

Sources said he was suffering the consequences of his insistence on joining his squad in an informal training session and acting like he was still an active footballer.

His lawyer has said in the past: “Diego is not conscious of his physical limitations. He gets on the pitch and still thinks he is 20.”

Morla also revealed Maradona may well have love children in Cuba.

The former Barcelona and Napoli star has five children he calls his own but there is much speculation about further kids.

Speaking in an interview on Argentinian TV, Morla added: “I’m worried about Cuba.

“There’s going to be a lot of Maradonas, a lot, even if some people don’t like it.”

Maradona made headlines last week by attacking Lionel Messi over his lack of leadership.

He claimed Messi went to the toilet 20 times before matches and insisted he would not call the Barcelona star up for international duty if he was made manager of the Argentinian national team again.

Messi’s cousin Maxi Biancucchi reacted by branding Maradona, who has battled weight problems as well as addictions to drugs and alcohol, “ignorant” over his comments.

But the former Argentina head coach and 1986 World Cup winner will make a peace call to clear the air once again with his countryman.
