Cork ladies footballers to play at Pairc Ui Chaoimh

The Ladies Gaelic Football Association have confirmed that Cork will play two 2019 Lidl National Football League Division 1 fixtures at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, as part of doubleheaders with the men’s side.

Ephie Fitzgerald’s outfit will face Tipperary at the famed Leeside venue on Saturday, February 23, in a fixture that will create history.

For the first time, the Cork ladies will play a competitive fixture at Páirc Uí Chaoimh – and it will also be the first time that they line out in a ‘double-header’ alongside their male counterparts, who will take on Meath in Division 2 of the Allianz League.

On Saturday, March 16, they will face Donegal in what will be a repeat of the 2018 TG4 All-Ireland Senior semi-final between the two counties. That game will precede the men’s fixture between the same two counties.

Cork are following in the footsteps of Dublin, who are also holding two doubleheaders with their ladies and men’s teams this spring in Croke Park, against Donegal and Mayo.

Cork GAA Chairperson Tracey Kennedy expressed her delight at the move, saying: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to host these double-headers in Páirc Uí Chaoimh and hope that the people of Cork show up in numbers to support both our women’s and men’s football teams on these two very special occasions.”

Helen O’Rourke, CEO of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, added: “This is fantastic news for the Cork Ladies Footballers, who have won numerous honours in recent years. On behalf of the LGFA, I would like to thank Cork GAA for their hard work in ensuring that their Ladies Footballers have such a fabulous venue in which to display their talents.”
