For the Castleford prop’s nan Val has painstakingly documented every moment since he was seven-years-old!
Now she is chronicling the careers of his own children after they started in rugby league but win at Wigan tonight and you can be sure every cutting will be laid out.
“She’s done it ever since I started at Castleford Lock Lane Under-8s,” Watts revealed.
“There are quite a few books now and whenever I go to her house with my kids, she gets them out and they look through them and read them.
“She just keeps them in a cupboard at her house – she’s just started doing the same for mine as they’ve just started playing at Under-7s.
“Every round of Super League and every round of the Challenge Cup I’ve played in, they’re in there.
“But there’s never been a Grand Final to put in. Maybe there may be one next Saturday.”
Watts, 28, has had an up and down year that started at Hull FC and saw him sold under a cloud to his hometown club after one too many suspensions.
Now he knows the Tigers are on the verge of something special because he is stopped every other step.
And if it does not go well for Daryl Powell’s side, which will be missing talented half-back Jake Trueman, do not expect to see much of him.
He added: “It’s quite a big change when you move clubs, your mindset changes and it takes a lot out of you mentally.
“When I first joined Cas, I didn’t really hear a great deal on the street and I know a lot of people around here, now I’m getting asked more frequently.
“It’s gone from, ‘You’ll be a good signing for us,’ to, ‘Can you do it?’ It’s everywhere I go and it gives me a bit of added motivation.
“If we get beat, though, I won’t be seen on the street.
“One thing stands between us and the Grand Final and that’s Wigan. We didn’t play great last week, so we’ve got a few things we want to put in place.”
