Canelo Alvarez aiming for Gennady Golovkin hat-trick after taking Rocky Fielding's super-middleweight belt

The Mexican muscleman has stepped up a division to face Liverpool’s WBA super-middleweight champ at Madison Square Gardens.

The 28-year-old was lucky to land a controversial 2017 draw and a tight 2018 win over GGG at middleweight.

And he insists he will shrink back down to the 11st 6 division to try to earn a final conclusive win over the Kazakh KO specialist.

Canelo said: "I never like to get overconfident, whether I am the favourite or not.

“It is no secret we want to win this fight and then come back to our 160lbs division.

"Me and Golovkin had two good fights, maybe in 2019 we can have a third fight. We'll see.

“Right now, I am 100 percent focused on Fielding.

"What I do know is I will fight in May and September next year.

"What I will do is give great fights to the public."

Fielding, 31, has an encouraging height advantage but is a huge underdog going into the battle.

But he is leaning on his shock July title win in Germany for more inspiration to prove his many doubters wrong.

He said: “I went to Germany and no one gave me a chance there. It's the same here.

“No one gives me a chance here, but I've prepared well, I believe in myself. I've come here as a champion.”
