Burnley 1 Huddersfield 1: Christopher Schindler cancels out Sam Vokes first-half strike to earn vital point for Terriers

The German defender – who famously scored the penalty which took Town to the Premier League 16 months ago – nodded in a Chris Lowe cross.

It was only the fourth goal of the season for the Terriers – but their fans will hope it could kick-start their season.

The visitors should have been ahead in this Roses clash when Aaron Mooy stole the ball off Ben Mee and squared for Laurent Depoitre.

The Belgian got a good connection on his shot but James Tarkowski – called up again by England this week – made a superb block.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Hogg thumped a shot too high and they proved to be key misses as the home team took the lead.

Match Stats

Johann Berg Gudmundsson is Burnley's assist king and he swung over a super cross from the right which Vokes headed down and into the corner.

It was a trademark goal by the Wales international – who was also on the mark in the win at Cardiff last week.

David Wagner's basement boys were unlucky to be behind but then wasted chances to get themselves level.

Rajiv van la Parra curled a shot over the bar and Erik Durm also should have at least made Joe Hart make a save with his effort.

It wasn't hard to see why Town are struggling for goals – just three goals in seven matches before this.

MatchDay Live

After the break, Mooy's shot was pushed away by Joe Hart and Laurent Depotire went down easily under Tarkowski's challenge – earning himself a yellow card.

Yet the visitors kept trying and just after the hour, a cross from the left by Chris Lowe was directed into the corner by Schindler.

Minutes later Schindler needed extensive treatment after being felled down a stray arm – but he bravely soldiered on to help his team earn a point.
