BT Sport extend Ligue 1 rights until 2021 to retain coverage of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar

The broadcasting giants have agreed a new deal to show Ligue 1 football until the summer of 2021.

BT Sport will show five live matches every week excluding the rights to show a number of Champions League matches.

Coverage starts on Friday night with Lyon travelling to Reims before Paris Saint-Germain are in action on Saturday with a clash against Guingamp.

Andy Haworth, managing director of strategy and content, BT consumer said: "We’re delighted to continue as the home of Ligue 1 Conforama until 2021 and we look forward to bringing our viewers comprehensive coverage of all the action from France, with live matches every weekend on TV and mobile via our award winning BT Sport App.”

Big-spending PSG remain hot favourites to retain the league title under the management of new boss Thomas Tuchel.

But Lyon, Marseille and Monaco will be hoping to push them close in order to break the trend.

BT Sport will eye the move as a coup after both La Liga and Serie A rights were handed over to new kids on the block Eleven Sports.

The group are owned by Leeds United chief Andrea Radrizzani and have been making moves in other countries, where they have launched digital subscription services.

The news comes on the back of Ronaldo’s £99million move from Madrid to Turin.
