Billy Joe Saunders hints at ring return announcement after being stripped of WBO belt following failed drugs test

The 29-year-old fighter had his October world title defence against Demetrius Andrade scrapped after testing positive for oxilofrine in August and has been suspended for six months.

Saunders has now dropped a hint at a ring return announcement on his official Twitter account.

He wrote that his fans can expect some news this week and also tagged his promotor Frank Warren in the message.

Following the failed drug test, the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission revoked Saunders' boxing license, meaning the unbeaten Brit could not challenge for his old belt until next year.

The fighter, however, was not banned from challenging for other titles.

Warren insisted that the stimulant was found in a VADA sample back in August after Saunders had used a "common decongestant nasal spray".

The unbeaten Brit pledged he was a "clean fighter to the bone" and decided to take legal action against the commission.

Warren argued that under World Anti-Doping Agency's rules the stimulant is permitted to use outside the day of the fight.

Saunders also claimed his innocence saying his B-sample came clean.

The fighter's promoter was baffled by the MSAC decision to hold a hearing on October 9 – only 11 days before his fight with Andrade.

Warren claimed the decision left Saunders' camp without a chance to appeal – and said the Brit was robbed.

The Hatfield man's last fight was in December 2017 when he retained his WBO title by beating Canadian David Lemieux by unanimous decision.
