Arsenal fans are using Mesut Ozil’s tweet to troll him after he was axed from Spurs clash

The German playmaker, 30, failed to make it onto the pitch for the 2-0 Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Spurs last night at the Emirates.

Instead, Ozil wrapped up warm and sat in the stands with David Beckham to simply watch the game.

The former Real Madrid star has been a shell of his former self this season – with fans desperate to see their "assist king" return.

And last week, Ozil got Gunners supporters excited by saying he couldn't wait for a busy run around the Christmas period.

Now, fans have reacted in furious manner to the comment, after failing to make an impact off the bench in the 3-2 loss to Southampton – and then missing last night altogether.

On Saturday, Ozil had tweeted: "Busy schedule ahead – feeling prepared for it. Next stop Southampton. #YaGunnersYa #COYG @Arsenal".

One fan in particular was left fuming at Ozil, with Piers Morgan reacting in typically animated style, slamming the German's "lack of ticker".

The TV presenter wrote: "Mesut Ozil left out of tonight’s North London Derby for ‘tactical reasons’.

"Sorry, WHAT?! For £300k a week, I’d quite like him to be useful whatever the bloody tactics.

"I fear it’s more connected to ‘lack of ticker’ reasons."

However, Morgan could be forgiven for his frustration after he was forced to wear a Tottenham shirt to conduct the cup semi-final draw.

The journalist was trolled by Harry Kane and Lord Alan Sugar after he was coerced into the stunt after losing a bet with fellow draw conductor Peter Crouch.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery had earlier revealed his reason for leaving Ozil out of the squad, calling it a "tactical decision".

Emery added: "I thought the players today who were with us were were for us the best for this match.

"I am thinking we have 24/25 players. When I am playing one and not another, it is for me my decision and today it was tactical."

The Spaniard then refused to give a real answer when asked whether Ozil would be sold in January, saying: "My focus now is the analysis of this match and on also Saturday.

"Tomorrow we go to training with every player and how they can be for a difficult match against Burnley.

"I am not thinking about another situation."
