Instagram may be adding a feature from Stories to the Explore tab.

The social media firm is testing a way to look through posts by tapping on them, similar to the way users do on Instagram Stories. 

In doing so, it would get rid of the standard scrolling feature characteristic of the app.

Currently, the ‘tap to see next post’ tool is only being tested in the Explore tab.

To use it, users would tap on either side of the post to advance to the next one. 

This, instead of just using their thumb to scroll down vertically through their feed.

It’s unclear if it will ever make it to Instagram’s main feed, or if it will be tested with more users in the future.

‘Tap through post, just like you tap through stories. Tap to see the next post.’ 

An Instagram spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that it was testing this feature in Explore. 

‘We’re always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and bring you closer to the people and things you love,’ the spokesperson said. 

The spokesperson added that the firm isn’t thinking about bringing this feature to the feed anytime soon.

Instagram already has an auto-advance tool in the Videos You Might Like section of Explore. 

Videos continue to auto-play to the next one when users finish a clip.
