Apple fans have flooded social media to complain the battery life of their iPhone handsets has plummeted seemingly overnight.
Twitter is awash with claims the power shortages have been caused by the firm preparing for the UK and US release of its iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max tomorrow.
One user claimed their iPhone 6S Plus battery drops by almost 50 per cent in less than 15 minutes since the announcement.
Another asked: ‘Did anyone else’s iPhone battery life just get cut in half?’
Although there is some truth to the claims, it is not evidence of an Apple conspiracy to force users to upgrade to the latest handset.
Instead, the recent release of iOS 12 has demanded additional resources from their gadgets while it downloads, installs and re-indexes data stored on the iPhone.

Apple released its latest operating system iOS 12 days after the launch of its new iPhone range.
The upgrade is available on any iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running Apple’s last version of the software, iOS 11.

This is because the gadgets have to re-organise many of the apps, files and other data stored in their memory.
This puts a heavy demand on the phone’s processor, choking the battery while the device adjusts.

User Nicole Grogan tweeted: ‘I swear to God a week ago my battery life on my iPhone 8 was impeccable and as of like, today, it’s game over’.
Chase wrote: ‘Whenever a new iPhone gets announced my battery life gets cut in half.’
Davo Howarth said: ‘My iPhone X battery life has suddenly decided it cba anymore.
‘Fair play, only costs me a million pounds a month. Bobbins’.

It is this upgrade that is believed to be throttling gadgets across the world.
During a major upgrade, a big chunk of the codes and systems that make up your phone are completely rearranged to boost the gadget’s speed and efficiency.
New features, like the smart photo albums in Apple’s Photos app which automatically collates and categorises similar pictures together, require the operating system to trawl through all the available photographs stored on the device.
Voice assistant Siri will also completely re-index all of the apps, documents and data stored on the device, so that it is able to surface the correct search results.
This puts a heavy demand on your iPhone’s processor, which drains your battery.

Apple launched pre-sales for its hotly-anticipated new flagship smartphones last Friday.
The £999 ($999) iPhone XS and £1,099 ($1,099) XS Max battled it out to be crowned Apple’s fastest selling smartphone of all time.
The most expensive iPhone of all time – the £1,449 512GB XS Max – sold out in its space grey and gold finishes in under half an hour.
Customers looking to buy the phone were told to wait up to three weeks for Apple’s next batch to arrive.
The iPhone XR, Apple’s new ‘budget’ handset priced at $749 (£749), will not be available for pre-order until October.
Last year’s iPhone X pre-orders were snapped up in under an hour by Apple fans, with those who missed the window forced to wait until December for a re-stock.
