Ed Sheeran announces new tour dates – with a strict new ticketing policy

Ed Sheeran never seems to take a break – seriously, the man needs a nice spa weekend to wind down.

But it doesn’t seem that the ‘Thinking Out Loud’ singer is slowing down anytime soon as he’s just announced a massive bunch of new tour dates for 2019.

The singer will play four big shows in Yorkshire’s Roundhay Park and Suffolk’s Chantry Park in August, and will tour across Europe beforehand, including a headline date at Sziget Festival.

Tickets will go on sale at 10am UK time on Thursday, September 27 – more info here.

On top of that, Sheeran plans to crack down on ticket touts with a strict new policy using a paperless system.

“Once again, Ed and his team have a strict stance against anyone using unethical secondary ticketing sites,” his promoters explained.

“The UK shows on this tour will use ‘paperless’ ticketing technology, which means that the credit or debit card of the purchaser of the tickets will become their ticket.

“This stops secondary sites and ticket touts being able to resell tickets at inflated prices and ripping off fans.

“Fans who become unable to go to the shows will be able to sell their tickets from November 1st to other fans at the price they paid + a booking fee at their point of purchase.”

Earlier this month, it was revealed that ticket resale site Viagogo, which Sheeran is encouraging fans to avoid on this tour, was suing the singer’s promoter over alleged fraud.

Their lawsuit alleges that Sheeran’s promoter set up fake Viagogo stalls during the star’s tour where it voided fans’ tickets, thus forcing them to buy new ones.

The promoter, Kilimanjaro Live, responded by describing the claims as “ludicrous, laughable and most importantly totally false”.
