  • Madina claims this helps remove the hair from the area without irritating the skin
  • Her hack received mixed reviews on Instagram with some saying it didn’t work

The internet is not lacking in DIY beauty hacks for any procedure someone wants done to their own body.

But many online were left horrified after one woman mixed toothpaste with turmeric in order to remove the hair off her arm, with hair removal experts warning that the technique could cause serious irritation and even burning on the skin.

Madina Shrienzada, who runs an Instagram account filled with DIY tricks, first posted the hair removal video on Friday, which featured herself trying out the hack along the length of her arm.

Shocking: Madina Shrienzada, who runs an Instagram account filled with DIY tricks, posted a hair removal hack that has divided followers

Does it work? She mixed toothpaste and turmeric into a bowl to form a thick paste

Safe? This paste was then mixed together before Madina spread it along her arm

Slathering it on: Madina said the turmeric works as a soothing agent on the skin while the toothpaste helps remove the hair

In the video, Madina mixed a large amount of Crest toothpaste into a bowl with turmeric and stirred it into yellow paste. But she did not specify how much of each ingredient to fans disappointment.

While the toothpaste will work as a sticky substance to remove the hair, it is claimed by Madina that turmeric doubles as a soothing agent to prevent skin irritation.

The toothpaste and turmeric mixture was spread onto the length of the woman’s arm where there was hair growing.

Madina then waited for the mixture to dry before rubbing the area in quick circles away from the area of hair growth to help loosen the follicles.

Once the area was dry, Madina took a plastic knife along the edge of her hair to remove the yellow mixture from the skin. She also used wet cotton balls and paper towels to remove the mixture.

The video then showed both the cotton ball and paper towel, which displayed hair that was removed from her arm using the bizarre technique.

Madina revealed to the camera afterwards that her entire arm was clean shaven from the turmeric and toothpaste trick.

But while the DIY hack might be effective, hair removal experts say that it could cause some serious harm to the skin.

Fans: Some followers were excited about the new hack and the chance to try it

Unimpressed: One follower said they tried the hack and it only irritated their skin

Mixed: People were willing to try the hack if it worked, but others said it wasn’t worth it

Important: One commenter warned about the possibility of staining the skin with the bright spice because of its orange and yellow tint

Unhappy: The majority of followers who tried the hack said it did not work for them

‘Applying toothpaste to the skin would be quite irritating as the flavorings used in toothpaste (such as cinnamon, mint, spearmint, peppermint etc.) can cause burning and irritation,’ Natalie Ismiel, brand manager at natural hair removal brand Nad’s, explained to DailyMail.com.

She added that hair removal can be done quickly and easily in the home, without the need to whip up your own potentially harmful concoctions in a bowl.

Alternative: The brand manager at natural hair removal brand Nad’s said that the turmeric and toothpaste mixture could actually burn the skin

Natalie recommended easy-to-use at-home products like the Nad’s Sugar Wax or the Sensitive Cream as a ‘far more effective way or removing hair safely and gently’ – and without any irritation.

The DIY hair removal video has certainly sparked some confusion online, with some Instagram users voicing questions about the efficacy of the technique – and whether it would work on their own arms.

‘Omg does this remedy really work,’ one person commented on the video. ‘(Then) I will for sure.’

There were some followers who claimed to try the DIY trick but were left with the same amount of hair as they had before.

‘I’ve tried it,’ one follower wrote. ‘It doesn’t work and my skin burned a little for an hour after doing it.’

People who have previously used turmeric warn that the orange-yellow spice will stain the skin if it is left on too long. There were also claims that the toothpaste could irritate the surface.

Despite the mixed reviews online, some people admitted they were willing to try the new trick when removing hair from their body.

Madina has advertised other DIY hacks on her account — including using coffee to tan the skin and shaving the armpits with a toothpaste and matcha tea mixture.
