A bizarre new challenge sweeping Instagram has seen people sharing photos of themselves apparently having fallen from boats, cars and even planes.
The #fallingstars challenge, which began in Russia, invites participants to share their best fake fall and nominate their friends and followers to do the same, and people have been going to extreme lengths to make their tumbles as dramatic as possible.
It seems to have proved particularly popular with Russian millionaires, as scores of images capture people apparently face-planting the tarmac after disembarking from private jets – a Miss Ukraine contestant among them.
Others have flung themselves fully clothed from boats to capture their ‘falling’ moments, or posed as though tumbling from cars, clattering down shopping mall escalators, or – in the case of the model Arizona Muse – spilling onto the road from the back of a DHL delivery van.

A private jet isn’t mandatory – others have shared snaps of themselves splayed on the ground having apparently tumbled out of their car, like these women who chose to take part in the challenge together in Ukraine

The #icebucketchallenge that swept social media
In 2017 the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge went viral on social media, which saw people film themselves being doused in ice water, sharing it online, then passing the baton to friends by nominating them to do the same.
Celebrities including Oprah, Mark Zuckerberg and Britney Spears took part in the challenge, which was started to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease, or ALS.
Believed to have been inspired by Anthony Senerchia, 46, of Pelham in New York, the Ice Bucket Challenge was such a global success it raised some $115million towards research into ALS.
