Slimming World reveals that Muller Lights are no longer ‘Syn free’

‘This is the real crisis of our generation’: Dieters go into mourning as Slimming World reveals that Muller Lights are no longer ‘Syn free’

  • Muller Light yoghurts will now be worth one Syn on the Slimming World diet
  • The treats had previously been ‘free’ meaning dieters didn’t have to weigh them
  • The yoghurt pots will now be worth one Syn each along with a few other dishes
  • Outraged members have taken to Slimming World to voice their disappointment

Slimming World members have gone into mourning today after it was revealed one of their favourite treats is no longer ‘Syn-free’.

The slimming scheme, which has 900,000 paid up members, allocates Syn points to all types of food including the popular Muller Light yoghurt, with members allowed up to 15 Syns a day.

Previously Syn-free members of Slimming World were devastated to discover that the yoghurt will now equate to one Syn.

The weight loss company explains that this is because it was often being eaten in large quantities as a ‘snack.’

Members of Slimming World were left distraught after discovering that the previously ‘Syn-free’ Muller Light is now going to be worth one Syn on the diet plan

However, those taking part in the dieting plan are far from impressed with the change to the plan, taking to Twitter to vent their disappointment.

One wrote: ‘So apparently muller lights have now been changed to 1 syn each on @SlimmingWorld. I can think of nothing worse!!

‘The only thing I could have to satisfy wanting something sweet which was free #givemestrength’

Another said: ‘I predict the shares in muller to take a big hit… their mullerlight yoghurts are no longer free on #slimmingworld (sic)’.

Dieters took to Twitter to vent their frustrations with some dubbing the news worse than Brexit

And in a particularly dramatic tweet a third added: ‘Forget Brexit. This is the real crisis of our generation.’

Explaining the change to the scheme a Slimming World spokesperson told the MailOnline: ‘A number of products – fat-free flavoured yogurts, tinned pasta shapes in tomato sauce and instant mashed potato – that were previously Free on our plan, meaning they could be eaten without weighing, counting or measuring, will now have a small Syn value (all food and drink that isn’t Free has a Syn value and members enjoy between five and 15 Syns daily).

‘This is because some of these foods are often eaten in large amounts, as a ‘snack’ rather than being enjoyed as part of a meal, or because they’re less satisfying than alternatives, such as mashed potato made with fresh potatoes.

Slimming World revealed that it is adding the yoghurt to the Syn list as too many dieters are eating copious amounts as a snack

‘As the new Syn values are still so low, Slimming World members can easily still include them within their daily choices, if that’s what they choose to do, and fat-free natural yogurts, dried pasta and potatoes will continue to be Free.’

This is not the first time that the Slimming World points system has been called into question with the brand previously giving avocados more Syns than a can of cider.

In March avocados were given a Syn rating of 14, while a can of Strongbow Dark Fruit cider is worth 9.5 points.

It is thought Slimming World allocates avocados such a high rating due to the fruit’s high fat content and because they contain up to 320 calories.
