Royal wedding: Eugenie broke with tradition in Zac Posen dress

Revealed: How Eugenie SHUNNED royal bridal tradition by donning a pale pink dress by American designer Zac Posen for her evening reception

  • Unlike her bridal predecessors, Eugenie opted for pale pink rather than white
  • Royal predecessors Kate and Meghan both opted for British designers
  • Duchess of Cambridge wore custom Alexander McQueen for her soirée in 2011
  • And the Duchess of Sussex chose Stella McCartney to design her evening down
  • But Eugenie, 28, opted for custom Zac Posen, estimated to have cost over £13k

From the jacquard silk to the dramatic train, Princess Eugenie’s Peter Pilotto wedding dress was a decidedly formal affair.

But when it came to her second dress of the day, the bride shunned tradition for a vintage-inspired number from American designer Zac Posen.

Unlike her bridal predecessors, Eugenie opted for pale pink rather than white for her evening reception at The Royal Lodge in Windsor.

It was a far cry from the brilliant white Stella McCartney number that the Duchess of Sussex wore for her evening reception at Frogmore House back in May.

Likewise, the Duchess of Cambridge wore custom Alexander McQueen for her soirée at Buckingham Palace in 2011.

Both Meghan and Kate opted for British designers, which makes Eugenie’s choice of dress all the more unusual.

Evening dresses from the high-end label can cost upwards of £14,000, but as Eugenie’s frock was bespoke it is likely to have cost much more.

The bride channelled old Hollywood glamour with the stunning gown which nipped her waist with a fitted corset bodice that fell to the floor in a glamorous sweep of delicate silk.

Much like her ceremonial wedding dress, the gown featured a regal off-the-shoulder design that showcased her back for a hint of subtle sex appeal.

American designer Zac Posen is known among fashion circles for his distinctly glamorous, old Hollywood aesthetic.

The silk for the gown came from Biddle Sawyer Silk, the palace said.

After Friday’s church service and the Queen’s champagne lunch, around 300 family and friends joined the ninth in line to the throne and husband Jack Brooksbank for a tequilla-fuelled party at Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, home to the bride’s parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

There was wild dancing, humorous and emotion-filled speeches, a singalong, gourmet pizza and liveried waiters serving bespoke cocktails, including one called a Genie In The Bottle – named after the bride – comprising rose water, vodka and cassis.

To rapturous applause and the delight of the happy couple, former Take That star Williams jumped on stage late into the celebrations and sang hits like Let Me Entertain You and Angels.

Jack and Eugenie tied the knot at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on Friday morning in front of a star-studded, 800-strong congregation.
