Kate Middleton stuns Christmas shoppers with trip to ‘poor man’s John Lewis’

Kate Middleton stunned shoppers today as she did some last-minute Christmas shopping – at The Range.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 36, popped into the discount retailer in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, with Prince George and Princess Charlotte in tow.

Customers at The Range, described by its own boss as "like a poor man’s John Lewis", said the royal browsed the toy aisles.

Sarah Daniels, a teacher, said she saw little George show interest in the "dinosaur slime".

The 43-year-old told Daily Mail: "As I was looking at the shelves I noticed a tall dark-haired lady further down the aisle and thought to myself ‘I recognise that face’."

Mrs Daniels said that at one point, Charlotte sat on the floor and was told by her mother, dressed casually in jeans, low-heeled boots and a jacket: "Get up, poppet."

George then asked if they could buy some dinosaur slime – a popular school playground fad in Britain – but Mrs Daniels said she "didn’t register a response" from the Prince’s mother.

She added that when she left The Range a fleet of Range Rovers were parked outside. Mrs Daniels presumed they had transported the royals and their police protection officers to the store.

The royals are said to swap joke Christmas presents for fun raising speculation that Kate and her children may have headed to The Range for novelty present shopping.

The sighting comes as it emerged that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be “packed like sardines” at the Queen’s Sandringham estate this Christmas – rather than staying at William and Kate’s 10-bedroom home nearby.

There have long been rumours of a growing rift between the two royal couples.
