I plucked up the courage to report another man raped me but cops ignored it

I’m a 25-year-old male. I kept the assault to myself until a friend noticed there was something wrong with me.

I confided in her and she said I had to go to the police.

I understand that there’s a stigma attached to male rape and sexual assault but since then I haven’t been myself.

I can’t believe the police won’t do anything.

Is there anything I can do or do I just have to live with it?

DEIDRE SAYS: No, you don’t. You can make a complaint if you have been treated unprofessionally, disrespectfully or insensitively by the police. See policeconduct.gov.uk.

That should help ensure future victims will be treated with more respect and consideration, but it could be a demanding process. First find the understanding support you need through SurvivorsUK who help male victims of all forms of sexual abuse (survivorsuk.org, 020 3598 3898).

My e-leaflet Male Rape Victim? will help too.
