How to use social media to score the best discounts when shopping online

There are some genius ways to use social media to find the best bargains around — and thanks to my extensive online shopping history, I know all the hacks.

  • WHATSAPP – More and more brands are using the messaging service to reach customers directly with deals and exclusive products.
Celebrity fave PrettyLittleThing loves giving shoppers a heads-up on sales via Whatsapp, offering serious savings of up to 66 per cent off, with one dress down from £35 to £12.
    MY SAVING: £23
  • TWITTER – You don’t have to clog up your feed by following dozens of brands, hoping to spot a sale.
Brands often send out exclusive Twitter-only deals but you can find them easily by typing #discount under the ‘latest’ tab.
I found 30 per cent off at Dominos and a Debenhams deal, L’Occitane En Provence “Beauty Classics” Gift Set usually £53 for £26.50.
    MY SAVING: £26.50
  • EMAIL – There are loads of wonderful deals out there when you sign up for a shop’s mailing list. Sign up to the Mothercare reward club today and you’ll get £100 worth of vouchers and 20 per cent off maternity clothing. While the Zalando.com newsletter, will get £10 off your first shop.
    MY SAVING: £10
  • INSTAGRAM –  Following up-and-coming retailers for generous sales deals which they only advertise on the ’Gram is the key to success.
The trick is to search popular hashtags, #discountcode or #promocode, which will lead you to individual Influencer codes and big savings. I have been after a Daniel Wellington Petite Melrose watch that’s a pricey £109, but found 15 per cent off on Instagram, making it £92.65.
    MY SAVING: £16.3
  • FACEBOOK – A cursory look at Facebook’s Marketplace reveals that if it exists you can buy it.
Selling everything from wigs to cars, with many items FREE, the possibilities for what you can find are endless.
I found a dining table and chairs for £25, slashed from £50.
    MY SAVING: £25
