Even if You Don’t Love Glitter, You’ll Love This Gold Glittery Eye

In general, I am cautious about glitter as a concept. Rarely does my overall aesthetic call for a moment of sparkle, and mostly, glitter seems like a nuisance to clean up more than anything else. However, this gold holiday glitter eye may have just changed my mind. With help from GLAMSQUAD Artistic Director Kelli J. Bartlett, I learned what it takes to create a glitter eye look that I actually loved — and where I’d been going wrong in the past.

The key to a solid glitter eye, it turns out, is all about creating a foundation for it to adhere to. Using eyeshadow primer is a crucial first step — with primer as a base, all shadow and glitter has a better chance of sticking to your lids for the duration of your evening (or day, if wearing glitter during the day is your thing).

Another important step in the gold glitter eye creation process is to layer gold metallic shadow on top of the primer, as opposed to jumping straight to the gold glitter. By doing so, you create the illusion of the gold being everywhere, as opposed to having holes in between the individual pieces of sparkly stuff.
