Despite that awkward interview, Jane Fonda feels ‘badly’ Megyn Kelly’s show got axed

Despite last year’s cringe-worthy interview with Megyn Kelly, Jane Fonda now has sympathy for the embroiled TV host.

The “Grace and Frankie” star told Entertainment Tonight she had hoped for the best for the former host of the third hour of “Today.” News broke last week that “Megyn Kelly Today” was canceled after Kelly defended blackface costumes.

“I feel badly because I wanted her to make it – I did,” Fonda told the outlet at Thursday’s Women’s Media Awards.

The 80-year-old veteran actress added that she hopes Kelly has learned from the controversy.

“That’s always how everyone learns, through making mistakes,” she said. “It’s through failure that we grow and learn. I know that has been true for me, and I think it is for everybody.”

A survey conducted by The Hollywood Reporter/Morning Consult published Tuesday found Fonda isn’t alone in her compassion for Kelly. Nearly half of the 2,201 adults polled felt NBC’s decision to cancel “Megyn Kelly Today” was “too harsh of a consequence.”
