The Tip That Made Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell Better Parents

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell are human — sometimes they argue in front of their kids. But the couple, who share daughters Delta, 5, and Lincoln, 3, make a point to patch things up in front of them too. According to Shepard, it’s a tip they picked up in couples counseling.

“You know, generally, kids see their parents get in a fight and then parents sort it out in a bedroom and then later they’re fine, so the kid never learns, how do you de-escalate? How do you apologize?” Shepard, 43, told Us Weekly at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles on Monday, December 3. “So we try, as often as possible, to do that in front of them. If we fought in front of them, we want to also make up in front of them.”

Shepard and the Good Place actress, 38, are also teaching their girls about giving giving back. The Parenthood alum and Amazon launched a way for customers to donate to a child in need with the help of the e-commerce company’s virtual voice assistant, Alexa. “Just say, ‘Alexa, donate to Toys for Tots,’” Shepard explained in an Instagram video. “That’s it! @Amazon will do the rest.”

Meanwhile, Bell recently gifted Instagram with a photo of the shirtless Chips star showing off his muscles in a pair of denim overalls.

Shepard knew nothing about the snap. “Did I look handsome?” he asked Us Monday. “Generally she’ll ask me, ‘Hey, do you mind if I post this?’ Cause I’m super conscious about how I look. But I was out of town doing a live show, so clearly she did this without my awareness!”

The pair, who began dating in 2007, tied the knot in October 2013 after waiting to wed until same-sex marriage was legalized.
