The Surprisingly Simple Workout App That Jennifer Garner Swears By

Jennifer Garner’s trainer Simone De La Rue is revealing all about the daily workout sessions that have helped the actress look so amazing on — and off — the red carpet.

“Jen and I have been working together for over four years. We train five to six times a week, sometimes at her house, sometimes at the studio, depending on what time of the day,” De La Rue exclusively tells Us Weekly. “She is my gold star pupil. I joke that sometimes I am unsure who the trainer is, her or me. She is extremely dedicated and one of the most hardworking mums I know.”

It’s undeniable that the Once Upon a Farm cofounder, 46, is in the best shape of her life. Case in point: her superscultped arms at the Oscars in March where she rocked an asymmetrical bright blue gown. And the actress has often credited her svelte physique to regular workouts with the Body By Simone founder. “Our workouts are a mix of strength training and cardio,” De La Rue shares. “My method is dance-based so we get our cardio fix by dancing or trampoline cardio.”

When Garner can’t get one-on-one time with her longtime trainer, she downloads a dance-based workout using the fitness pro’s new BBS app, which streams routines right to her phone. “She swears by the app when we are not together,” De La Rue says. “It’s like having me in her back pocket at anytime.”

Garner tries to get solo sessions with the pro as often as possible, though. “I’m supposed to be on vacation— what’s @bodybysimone doing here?! Just joking— I’m so lucky!” the star captioned a July 2018 video of the pair executing choreography in a sunlit studio in Hawaii.

According to De La Rue, Garner’s feel-good post authentically captures their time together. “I always try and make the workouts fun and joyful and we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We laugh a lot at each other which helps to keep it light and entertaining,” she says. “But don’t get me wrong, our workouts are killer and effective! Don’t let the pretty dance videos on Instagram fool you.”

De La Rue admits that the star has upped her fitness routine recently, which is why she looks even more superfit than usual. “The last six months her workout intensity has increased due to preparation for her role in Peppermint,” the pro reveals. “We focus on different muscle groups each day, however recently the focus has been her shoulders, biceps and triceps. To play an assassin, she had to look strong powerful yet still feminine.”

The star posted a video of the duo doing intense moves side-by-side using free weights, resistance bands and more on September 5. “Here’s a little tase of Simone and me doing what we do — basically, this is a #PEPPERMINTmovie workout,” she captioned the  composition.

The Alias alum is known for putting in the time to execute the physically demanding roles she signs on for, which could require workouts that are more fight club than dance party.

“Ok, this is an oldie but it still makes me laugh,” Garner captioned an August 2018 video of herself and a group of stunt performers wearing all black plus pink tutus while practicing knife fighting moves on the Peppermint set. “Stunt performers are game for anything—they didn’t bat an eye when I offered tutus for training. The stunt team that PLAYS together SLAYS together.”

Although Garner clearly enjoys a good knife fight, De La Rue says their dancing sessions have no end in sight. “I think dance will always be her first love,” she tells Us. “It’s our therapy, our creative expression and it burns tons of calories.”
