Teyana Taylor Shows Why She Was Called a ‘Ninja Turtle’ Growing Up

All eyes were on Teyana Taylor’s abs at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards as she stepped onto the pink carpet in a cropped white top and high-waisted black pants with severe cutouts that revealed an extremely defined midsection (and booty, too!).

And rightfully so — the Teyana & Iman star’s six-pack truly looked unreal.

The 25-year-old singer, who graces the September/October 2018 cover of Playboy, attributes her chiseled midsection to a few factors — first and foremost is genetics. “People used to call me a ninja turtle because even when I was six-years-old, I had a little Buddha belly but there was still a six pack on top of it,” she tells Us Weekly.

The second source of her flat belly is surprising — her daughter. Well, running around after her that is: “My daughter really is my trainer and she does not play around, she’s a real active little girl, so running all around, I swear keeps me in shape,” the actress tells Us of Iman Jr., whom she welcomed in December 2015 with her NBA star husband, Iman Shumpert.

The “K.T.S.E’” singer also credits her husband — and their sex life — for her sculpted physique. “And of course my husband is my trainer, when we cut it up in the bedroom, living room, every room,” she jokes.

Her amazing abs are also a side effect of her career. “The only real workout I do is dancing and performing,” she tells Us. “I was touring right up until after I was six months pregnant and I was in really good shape, so after she came I just went right back down, almost immediately. That’s the way I do it — I love to dance.”

Along with using dance as a way to get stage-ready and get in a stellar sweat session, Taylor, who starred in Kanye West’s sexy video for “Fade,” uses her fancy footwork to have fun with pals. “I dance with my friends and I prep for touring and rehearsals,” she shares. “I don’t like being in the gym with people stunting and grunting. I feel intimidated by the gym and I don’t have time for that, I just like to have fun and dance has always been a huge part of my life.”

Her do-it-anywhere dance secret: her own dance fitness program, fadetofit.com. “It gives you 7-minute quick dance workouts and I incorporated all of the dance moves that I was doing when I was pregnant and touring that really got me into shape,” she tells Us. “It’s so dope.”
