Sneaky girl plans perfect ninth birthday party – and her mum has no clue

Children do the funniest things, am I right?

From pulling funny faces to cheering people on for doing a poo, they are always finding new ways to surprise and delight their parents.

And one girl has found an especially clever way to shock her mum – and it’s all to do with her upcoming birthday.

When it came to planning her party eight-year-old Skye from Brisbane decided to take matters into her hands this year and organise her own perfect shindig.

And her mother, Jessa, knew absolutely nothing about it.

Skye decided she wanted to celebrate turning nine with a magical mermaid sleepover party.

So she took it upon herself to take some old birthday invitations out of a craft box and fill them out, detailing when and where the party would take place.

The youngster later handed them out to six friends from her school.

Skye had also come up with a plan for obtaining party supplies – on the day she was simply going to ask her mum to go to the shops and "buy mermaid blankets from Kmart and some popcorn and junk food to watch movies".

The scheme only came to light when a fellow parent text Jessa to say she didn’t think her daughter was old enough to attend sleepovers just yet.

And unsurprisingly the 28-year-old was very confused by the message – but one look at Skye’s face told her everything she needed to know.

Speaking to Kidspot, the mum said: "I think her and I remember different conversations.

"I remember the conversation we actually had about not having a sleepover party and she remembers the one she wanted to hear about having one."

Despite her daughter’s deception, Jessa is rather impressed by her daughter’s initiative.

She admits Skye has always enjoyed "making lists for all areas of her life – household chores, lists of why she deserves surprises" but this was something else.

"Her creativity is astounding," she added.

"But I had to do the mum speech of us not planning things behind our parents’ backs."

The mermaid themed party has since been cancelled as Jessa is busy looking after three of her own kids, including an eight-month-old baby, while her fiancé is away training in the army.

However she has planned a surprise dinner at her daughter’s favourite restaurant to celebrate the special occasion.
