Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte and his wife, Kayla Rae Reid, revealed the sex of their second child on Sunday, December 23, but their son, Caiden, didn’t seem to be too thrilled about it.
The couple celebrated their impending arrival at a gender reveal party on Sunday and shared the special moment when they learned the baby’s sex.
The couple stood on either side of a gift-wrapped box, while Reid held onto her 18-month old son. As Lochte, 34, opened the box, pink balloons came floating up. The excited parents and their guests screamed in excitement and the athlete raised his fists in the air, but little Caiden burst into tears.

The couple, who wed in a courthouse ceremony in January before exchanging vows again in front of friends and family in September, announced in November that they were expecting a second child.
“BOOM!!!” the champ captioned a photo that showed him holding a sonogram image alongside Reid and their son. “Can’t wait to bring my fam of 4 to #tokyo2020,” he added, referencing the next summer Olympic Games in Japan.
It’s been a year of highs and lows for Lochte, who was suspended from competitive swimming for 14 months by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency over an injection he’d given himself of B-complex vitamins.
In October, he announced that he was seeking treatment for a “serious” alcohol addiction after he was involved in a car crash.
“Ryan has been battling from alcohol addiction for many years and unfortunately it has become a destructive pattern for him,” his agent told Us Weekly in a statement. “He has acknowledged that he needs professional assistance to overcome his problem and will be getting help immediately. Ryan knows that conquering this disease now is a must for him to avoid making future poor decisions, to be the best husband and father he can be, and if he wants to achieve his goal to return to dominance in the pool in his 5th Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.”
