Jana Kramer is seeing blue! The pregnant One Tree Hill alum reveals to Us Weekly exclusively that her second child with husband Mike Caussin is a boy.
The news of the baby’s sex came as a surprise to the couple. “I was convinced it was a girl. Like, absolutely convinced with how sick I’ve been and the cravings I’ve had,” Kramer, 34, tells Us. “I was like, ‘OK, I’m definitely having another girl.’ And I kind of secretly wanted a girl because I never had a sister, so I always wanted to know what that was like.”
Kramer and the former NFL tight end, 31, had an intimate gender reveal party with their closest friends in Los Angeles. “My girlfriend Ashley called the doctor once the sex came in and she filled a piñata up with [blue] confetti,” she says. “And then when we hit it, we were like, ‘Oh!’ Like, we were shocked. It was a really nice actual surprise.”
In fact, Caussin began to cry when he found out. “He wants to raise his little boy [with] respect and kind of do the things that he wishes he would have done,” the singer tells Us. “He’s gonna be such a good dad to a boy. It’s gonna be challenging because in this day and age for boys, you don’t want to be too hard on them, but you still want them to know it’s OK to show emotion and to kind of have that mix.”
The pair’s daughter, Jolie, 2, had a sweet reaction, too. “She saw the confetti and stuff, but I don’t think it really kicked in until she went to the 3-D ultrasound with us,” says Kramer, who is due in November. “Now that my belly popped, she’s finally getting it. Like, there’s a baby in my belly, and I’m like, ‘It’s your brother!’ And she’s like, ‘Yay!’ … I can tell that she is very excited for the boy.”
One thing the Whine Down With Jana Kramer podcast host is looking forward to buying for her son? “The clothes!” she says. “I’m having so much fun shopping for boy clothes because … it’s just gonna be different. I feel like we got the girl thing down pat, so it’s gonna be new and it’s gonna be fun for us to kind of learn about the boy!”
Kramer says she sees baby No. 2 as a “redo” of sorts with Caussin, who made headlines in September 2016 for being unfaithful during their marriage. “He’s really excited about having another baby and just being really present and there for me because he wasn’t that way with Jolie,” she tells Us. “We know that our relationship is really important to continue to work on.”
