People Are Mad About Chip Gaines’ Car Seat Picture — See it

Chip Gaines came under fire for a recent Instagram photo of a car seat. But it had nothing to do with an improper install or the chest straps being too loose. No: the Fixer Upper star was shamed over cornbread.

In the photo, the Stokke + Nuna Pipa baby gear sits on top of the Gaines’ stove. “If you’ve read my book #capitalGaines you know I’m NO child safety specialist,” the 43-year-old teased in the caption. “But even I know this can’t be a good place for a car seat . . .”

Fans ignored the joke and zeroed in on something else in the frame. “What car seat seat? I can’t get past the cake with no frosting AND it was cut in the middle! BLASPHEMY!” wrote one woman in the comments. Added another:“What sort of monster cuts out the middle first??? #Notok #SoShook.”

All anyone seemed to care about was the cornbread. “Yeah forget the car seat, WHO CUT OUT OF THE MIDDLE @chipgaines #wrong #againstthelaw,” scolded one of his nearly four million social media followers.

Chip and his wife, Joanna Gaines, are parents of Drake, 13, Ella, 11, Duke, 9, Emmie Kay, 8, and 7-week-old Crew.

In the fall issue of The Magnolia Journal, Joanna, 40, reflected on how she had her first four children in quick succession. “Time and money and sleep were all scarce, and I remember greeting each one of those babies with a mix of excitement, uncertainty, exhaustion, and awe,” she revealed in the piece. But now, the HGTV personality feels “more comfortable” in her own skin — and understands she can’t do everything herself.

“Part of being capable is surrounding myself with people who are strong where I am weak and willing to lend a hand when I am in need of help,” the Magnolia Table cookbook author explained. “Since Crew’s birth, I have a new understanding of the reality of the phrase ‘it takes a village.’”
