Nick Carter revealed on Monday, September 10, that his wife Lauren Kitt suffered a miscarriage. “God give us peace during this time. I was really looking forward to meeting her after 3 months. I’m heartbroken,” the Backstreet Boys band member shared on Twitter. Carter, 38, added that “It was a little sister” for the couple’s 2-year-old son, Odin.
The singer debated canceling his show in Lima, Peru. “I don’t think I can perform tonight. I’m sorry Lima,” Carter wrote. He later confirmed he would take the stage on the final date of his South America and Mexico solo tour. Carter admitted it would “be hard” but he was pushing through “for the love of my fans.”
This is not the pair’s first pregnancy lost. When Carter competed on season 21 of Dancing With the Stars, Kitt revealed she had a miscarriage before they conceived Odin. “It was really hard on Nick and just watching him get so excited about something and then to just see him so hurt,” she said during a pretaped video for ABC in 2015. “That was hard.”
Carter and the 35-year-old fitness pro tied the knot in April 2014. Guests at the ceremony included fellow Backstreet Boys members AJ McLean, Howie Dourough and Brian Littrell. McLean’s daughter Ava, now 5, was a flower girl.
Last year, Carter, who has been open up about about his struggles with addiction, gushed about how fatherhood keeps him on the straight and narrow. “[It] gives me purpose and reason to keep on staying healthy, staying motivated and all those things,” he told Entertainment Tonight at the time. “He’s a really good, solid thing for me to have in my life.”
