Megyn Kelly: I’m ‘Mad’ When My Kids Go to Their Dad for Comfort and Not Me

Megyn Kelly and Douglas Brunt rarely argue. But the journalist admitted that sometimes she feels “unjustifiably” angry with her husband of 10 years.

“I’m mad when a child comes into the room in the middle of the night and they go to your side of the bed and not mine. I’m holding it against you,” the Megyn Kelly Today host told Brunt during an interview with Us Weekly. “But I can express that to him and he can hear it, and then we can have a talk about it.”

Kelly, 47, and the novelist are parents of Edward, 9, Yardley, 7, and Thatcher, 5. And with three young children, the couple are determined to keep their marriage healthy. “I think one of our main rules is say the thing you least want to say, but say it kindly and gently. We’re not afraid to have conversations,” she explained to Us

The Settle for More author noted that Brunt, 47, is good about telling her what he needs. “He’ll sit me down and say, ‘I feel like there’s too much distance between us,’ or ‘I don’t feel connected to you,’” she revealed.

Brunt, who penned The New York Times bestseller The Means,  is protective of his wife and online criticism “drives him nuts.” He wishes the public could see Kelly in action with their children. “I think her tenderness, especially around the kids . . . she’s so sweet and goofy and silly with them,” he gushed. “I think that would be something you’re not used to seeing.”

According to the pair, a typical evening at the Kelly-Brunt household involves playing a board game, watching a silly show or having a family dance party.

Though Kelly is at NBC studios by 6 a.m. and in bed by 11 p.m. — she and Brunt find time to connect. One night a week, the Manhattan-based mom and dad have a date night. “We’ll check out a gallery or a restaurant we haven’t been to,” Brunt told Us. “We always say we’re in the city and we never take advantage of it!
