Kim Kardashian Apologizes for Her ‘Insensitive’ Weight Comments

Kim Kardashian has admitted she made a mistake. On October 3, the reality star finally apologized for bragging in a July Instagram story that she weighed 119 pounds — a comment that outraged fans and celebrities alike.

“I 100 percent completely understand where people would be coming from that felt that way,” the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star shared on the first episode of Ashley Graham’s podcast, “Pretty Big Deal.” “My intention is never to offend anyone and I really apologize if I offended anyone.”

The KKW Beauty founder, 37, also acknowledged that her comments could have been triggering and dangerous for those with conditions including anorexia and bulimia. “I know people that have serious eating disorders that have been in and out of the hospital for 15 years, close people,” she said. “So, I’ve been through, I’ve experienced it enough to have known better.”

In the offending video, Kim’s model sister, Kendall Jenner, noted, “I’m really concerned, ’cause I don’t think you’re eating. Like, you look so skinny.” A delighted Kim gushed in response, “Oh my god. Thank you!”

Khloe Kardashian also chimed in. “I’ve never seen a human being look as good as you — you are a walking Facetune doll,” she noted, before praising her older sister for looking “anorexic.”

Fans and stars immediately responded by both shaming Kim and sharing their own body confidence struggles and painful weight stories. Emmy Rossum shared her weight story on Instagram, writing, “The only time I was 119 pounds is when I had MONO. On a magazine shoot and everyone was ‘freaking out over how good’ I looked. I had lost ten pounds and was gaunt and sick and felt faint … It totally messed with my head … You never know what someone is going through. If you’re having a tough time with body image, I promise you’re beautiful and this feeling will pass.”

While the 5-foot-3 star admitted her comments were “insensitive,” she explained to Graham that she’d worked hard over the past year to get in shape and was proud of her efforts: “I… lost 20 pounds and it hasn’t been easy.”

And the entrepreneur, wed to Kanye West, has no plans to stop sharing her fitness journey online — at least the healthy portions of it. “I actually just feel healthy and strong and confident, so I just want to post it.”
