Edie Knightley Righton kept parents Keira Knightley and James Righton up as a newborn, and three years later, little has changed!
At a screening of her new film Collette at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art, Knightley, 33, told Us Weekly her daughter still isn’t the most peaceful of sleepers.
“Yes! It’s been three years,” she said. “It’s a lie. She has occasionally slept through the night, but not in any kind of prolonged sense.”
The two-time Oscar nominee also told Us she and her musician husband have sought outside help in getting her little one to bed. “Oh, we’ve done all of that,” she replied when asked about sleep clinics. “We’ve done everything. She’ll sleep when she’s ready. I didn’t until I was six, so my mum is thrilled because she says it’s comeuppance.”
The press tour for Colette — a period film in which Knightley plays the titular 19th-century French novelist — has the actress traveling solo and finally getting some shut-eye. “She’s not with me,” she told Us at the Thursday, September 13, screening — after which guests headed to the Rainbow Room for an afterparty and enjoyed cocktails by Casa Noble Tequila.
“[With] jet lag, there’s no way,” she added. “So I’ve actually for the first time in quite a while had the last five nights of sleep, so I’m feeling more alive right now than I have in three years!”
Knightley previously talked about her wakeful nights in an Elle interview published shortly after Edie’s May 2015 birth. “The ability to have no sleep and continue going. It’s not pleasant — I never thought that I could actually do it for the amount of time that I’ve done it,” she told the magazine that August.
But the Pirates of the Caribbean star also said at the time that the pros of motherhood outweigh any cons. “The love thing is astonishing,” she explained. “It’s a very primal, primal love. That’s quite extraordinary.”
