Changed man: Simon with his wife Katerina last month
Showbiz stars are doing double takes when they meet newly slim super-agent Jonathan Shalit – after he lost four stone thanks to a gastric-band operation.
The 55-year-old, a close friend of Simon Cowell, had the £25,000 weight-loss surgery in February. Since then he has shrunk from 16½ stone to 12½.
Shalit, whose clients include Spice Girl Mel B and presenter Denise Van Outen, said: ‘I feel fantastic. Simon’s complimented me on how good I look. The truth is I was obese, I was a glutton but I was concerned I might have a stroke or heart attack.
‘Some friends have been doing a double take when they see me. I do look different. This has changed my life.’
Shalit, who wants to lose another stone, added: ‘Now I’ve had to spend a fortune buying a whole new wardrobe of smaller clothes – my stylish wife Katrina is supervising that one!’
Mindfulness by podcast
People with blood cancer are being helped by mindfulness sessions on podcast.
Studies have shown the psychological impact of blood cancers on patients, and David Innes, Chair of the Chronic Lymphocytic Lymphoma Support Association, explained: ‘Blood cancer patients are often managed in early stages through a watch-and-wait strategy.
‘The psychological implications of being told you have cancer but then being told you won’t be actively treated cannot be underestimated.
‘In unsettling times such as these, mindfulness techniques could make a significant difference to patients and their loved ones.’
A portion control kit based on NHS calorie guidelines is helping dieters keep an eye on the size of what they put on their plate.
The £40 MealKitt was initially designed by a personal trainer to help his mother lose enough weight to qualify for surgery, by building portion-size boxes out of Lego.

A ‘slider’ system allows users to change the size of the sections to suit a weight loss – or gain – goal, eliminating the need to weigh ingredients or count calories. mealkitt.com
Call for sign language sessions
British Sign Language should be included in the National Curriculum, according to the National Deaf Children’s Society, which is marking Deaf Awareness Week by launching the Right To Sign campaign. New research by the charity shows that 97 per cent of young people questioned – both hearing and deaf – want to learn it, and 92 per cent would like it to be a GCSE option.
