Pearce reveals who he thinks will win the title between Liverpool and Man City

Stuart Pearce believes Liverpool will beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this season for one specific reason.

Pep Guardiola’s Citizens stormed to the top spot last year and made it their own before lifting the trophy on the final day of the campaign, a ridiculous 19 points above second-placed Manchester United .

Liverpool on the other hand finished fourth, but dropped points towards the end of the season as their focus had switched to the Champions League.

This summer Jurgen Klopp has strengthened his side strategically bringing in world-class goalkeeper Alisson from Roma, Fabinho from Monaco, Naby Keita from RB Leipzig and Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke.

The Reds, who proved they’re more than capable of beating City last season, battered West Ham 4-0 on the opening game of this season.

They then went on to beat a tough Crystal Palace side at Selhurst Park, in which Alisson recorded a second clean sheet on the bounce.

Speaking about the title race on Sky Sports’ The Debate , Pearce said he believes Liverpool have what it takes to win the Premier League this season.

"I personally think Liverpool will win the league this year. I think it’s a two horse race between them and City and I think they will come out on top," he said.

"I’m seeing a belief within the group that I’ve probably not seen before, and they’re hungry as well. They lost the Champions League final and in the manner they lost it will have hurt them.

"They didn’t win the league last year and I think they’ve got that hunger in their belly and any team with hunger in their belly and something to prove – they’re chasing that first title for God knows how long – and I think that hunger will get them over the line."
