It’s hard to disagree that Samsung’s Galaxy S10 is one of the best phones of 2019.
This all-new flagship, which launched last month, arrives bursting with new features including a triple rear camera, bigger screen, faster processor and the ability to refill other devices wirelessly.
All of this makes the S10 hard to beat but there is one irritating feature on this latest smartphone that is hard to ignore.
To make sure users get the best viewing experience, Samsung has ditched the bezels and taken the screen to the very edges of the phone.
There’s clearly nothing wrong with this decision but it has left the Korean technology firm with the conundrum of where to put the front-facing camera.
Unlike Apple, Samsung decided not to include a notch on the S10 with this device getting a camera that is, instead, hole-punched through the display.
In fact, the bigger S10+ even gets a double camera which pops through the screen.
This design has split opinion with Express.co.uk saying in our recent S10 review: “The only thing that slightly ruins what you are watching is the dual front-facing camera which is now punched through the screen.
“There’s no easy answer to the front camera problem and Samsung’s design isn’t ideal.
“We’d rather just have a notch in the middle of the display.”
Samsung is obviously aware that this camera is mildly annoying and has even included unique wallpapers on the S10 that aims to hide the unsightly lenses.
Now it seems a more innovative fix has been created and it’s just been shown off on the new Galaxy A80.
This device, which goes on sale next month, includes a pop-up camera that appears from the top of the phone.
This means the 6.7-inch screen is now completely free of any cameras and offers a fully immersive viewing experience.
To make things even better for selfie fans, the rear triple camera actually spins around as the camera pops out so you get the same level of photography on the front and back.
The trio of lenses includes a 3D depth, Ultra wide and the standard 48-megapixel sensor which should offer enough plenty of scope for your photos.
Other features that you’ll find on this mid-range monster include a 3,700mAh fast charging battery, embedded fingerprint scanner under the screen, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Clearly, the S10 can’t now be upgraded to feature this camera but it certainly fixes what many have been complaining about and it could offer a glimpse of Samsung’s plans for the future.
