Take a seat, unicorn food. It’s almost summer, which means ~MeRmAiD sEaSoN~ is in full swing. Kicking it off is Crème and Sugar, a café in California (the spot that changed your life with unicorn hot chocolate) that’s introducing an entire mermaid menu.
Owner and creator Joanna Czikalla says she was inspired to create mermaid treats because she “always wanted to be a mermaid” — and that the magical sea creatures were on her mind when she dreamed up unicorn hot chocolate back in December.
“I’ve been planning mermaid [desserts] since[desserts]he win[desserts]when I was doing the unicorn [menu items]. I [menu items]uldn[menu items]d until mermaid season,” she says.
But now, Czikalla is making every season mermaid season by adding new items to her regular menu. The desserts and drinks are mostly green and blue, with touches of pink and purple. You’ll also find a whole lot of edible pearls and glitter, making her treats almost too pretty to eat. (Almost.)
The café will offer Mermaid Water (one of Czikalla’s favorites), which is made with blue Hawaiian lemonade (which tastes like blue raspberry, coconut, and lime) with a float of sea-salt cream, which Czikalla says “tastes like what you would want the ocean to taste like.”
The menu also features this insane Mermaid Shaved Ice creation.
Finishing it off are two dessert items: a blue Mermaid Shake and a Mermaid Float, that’s topped with cotton candy, rock candy, and sour-candy strips — another Czikalla favorite — and a vanilla Mermaid Cake that looks like art.
