The sweet moment Prince Harry breaks protocol to KISS a surprised female fan's hand in Sussex

During their public engagement on Wednesday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stopped to walk around Brighton, with Prince Harry breaking protocol when he met a woman called Lydia.

The sweet moment was captured on camera by student Francesca Troon, 18, and shows the royal walking up her spot by the barriers.

A woman off camera called Lydia can be heard introducing herself as Meghan reaches her at the railings.

Lydia tells Meghan she “looks so beautiful”, and Meghan asks where she is from, and gets the reply of “Hastings!”

Prince Harry then appears in shot and swoops in to plant a kiss on Lydia’s hand – the surprised fan can be heard giggling “Oh thank you!”

One of the nearby fans by the railing can be heard exclaiming: “Well done!” to the bewildered Lydia.

Fan Francesca Troon, who filmed the encouner, told MailOnline: “They were actually on the opposite side [of the street] and heard people shouting their names out on our side.

“Meghan made a beeline for this lady, she was elderly in her  eighties. Meghan asked her for her name and where she came from. Then Harry came over and Meghan introduced the lady to Harry.

“The lady was so excited and she said she felt so lucky that Harry had kissed her hand.”

The royal family used to have a strict approach to meeting the public, but the younger generation of royals seem to have relaxed the rules.

Despite the numerous royals happily shaking hands with people she meets, Princess Anne is very reluctant to do the same.

In the new behind-the-scenes documentary on the royal family, Queen of the World, Princess Anne reveals the reason behind her lack of contact.

Queen Elizabeth’s only daughter admits that it is simply down to royal etiquette, and says in the show: “We never shook hands”.

This was in reference to the royal family refraining from the tactile greeting, until the Queen relaxed the rules in the 1970s.

She added: “The theory was that you couldn’t shake hands with everybody, so don’t start. So I kind of stick with that, but I noticed others don’t.

“It's not for me to say that it's wrong, but I think the initial concept was that it was patently absurd to start shaking hands.

“And it seems to be that it's become a shaking hands exercise rather than a walkabout if you see what I mean."

Nowadays we often see the likes of Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle regularly grasping the hand of those they meet – and probably making their day.

Despite her being pictured shaking hands with the public, Kate Middleton often carries a clutch if she wishes to avoid any awkward contact.

We recently revealed that Prince George and Princess Charlotte are banned from playing with this popular toy.

And from selfies, to voting and going out alone – these are the things Meghan Markle is banned from doing now she is married to Prince Harry.
