New laser treatment for your vagina could banish painful sex for good – and it can all be done in your lunch break

But now there's a new treatment that could zap the pain away all in your lunch hour.

It's called Shelase and it's a new form of non-surgical treatment for vaginal atrophy, a condition that causes the walls of the vagina to waste away.

Vaginal atrophy can lead to a range of other problems like dryness, discomfort, pain during sex and incontinence.

So how does Shelase work?

The treatment involves inserting a cylindrical device into the vagina that uses laser therapy to help promote to production of collagen, which boosts the health of the vaginal wall.

After the treatment women should have improved function down there and less discomfort – and it can all be done in your lunch break.

The procedure takes about 15 minutes to complete, but you will need an initial consultation to determine how many treatments you need depending on the severity of your symptoms.

Unlike surgery, you won't need any time to recover, meaning you can walk out of the clinic and back to your day-to-day life.

It's makers claim it's not a procedure to improve the overall look or feel of the vagina, but it's remarkably similar to non-surgical vaginal tightening treatments.

"Unlike other vaginal rejuvenation treatments this uses mixed technology for fast, reliable and high-quality treatments with no downtime," an explanation on the products website says.

"The mixed technology stimulates new collagen formation, supporting the increase of internal hydration and balance with providing minimal post treatment recovery.

"In turn Shelase provides a safe and effective treatment for all patients dealing with one or more vaginal atrophy symptom. Shelase treatment is a non-surgical solution created to regain women confidence."

The treatment, which starts at £650, is offered at the ME Clinic in Cardiff.

Many women have praised the Shelase.

Tracy, from Derby, said: "I had lived in discomfort for a long time, trying creams from high street shops to ease my discomfort. Nothing ever worked for longer than a few hours. This treatment is the answer I have searched for."

"I had been looking for a non-surgical solution to my post-menopausal intimate health problems and was recommended Shelase. It's changed my life," Mrs Lewis from Cardiff wrote.

Mary from Birmingham said: "Since having my daughter I wasn't feeling like myself, noticing changes down below that made intercourse uncomfortable. Thanks to Shelase I no longer have to suffer with dryness and discomfort. It's honestly been life-changing."

Vaginal atrophy can be a problem for women of any age, it's more likely to affect women who are going through, or have been through, the menopause.

This is because the body produces less oestrogen than normal, which has a knock on effect on how the vaginal wall behaves.

Vaginal atrophy can also occur in women who have had been treated for cancer, especially in those who have had hormone treatment for breast cancer, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Common symptoms include discharge, burning, itching, difficulty peeing and pain during sex.
