I was stabbed SEVEN times in the stomach by my evil ex after he accused me of cheating – now I have panic attacks every time I see a steak knife

Ashley Vaughan, 33, shouted: “F*** one of my friends, will you? before plunging the knife into terrified Kayleigh Evans, 29.

Kayleigh was stabbed seven times leaving her with horrific wounds and scarring her for life.

The Crown Prosecution Service released gruesome photographs of Kayleigh’s injuries which left her unable to go swimming with her children.

Kayleigh, 29, told Wales Online: “I’ve lost all my confidence. I panic when I see something like a steak knife. A wave of emotion hits me and it takes my breath away.

“It takes me back to the moment when he was leaning over me with that knife. These thoughts will never leave me and now I have to live with this for the rest of my life.”

But she bravely said she hadn't given up on finding love, adding: “I hope to find someone to love and protect me, like I thought Ashley would.”

Kayleigh has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, an illness often association with soldiers, and can’t look at her scarred body in the mirror.

She said: “I find myself looking for clothes that will cover me up. I can’t bear the thought of going on holiday and wearing clothes that would reveal my scars.

“I can’t even face the thought of going swimming with my children. I don’t know how I can explain the scars to them."

I’ve lost all my confidence. I panic when I see something like a steak knife. A wave of emotion hits me and it takes my breath away. It takes me back to the moment when he was leaning over me with that knife.

She added: “I’m dreading starting a new relationship and having to explain it.”

Vaughan was given a restraining order in 2017 preventing him from contacting health care support worker Kayleigh after their two-year relationship ended.

But they got back together earlier this year and Kayleigh confessed she had been out with one of Vaughan’s friends.

He felt people were laughing behind his back because she had been to a local pub on a date.

Cardiff Crown Court heard Vaughan sat on a kitchen stool at her home “playing” with the steak knife, tapping the sharp blade with his fingers and dragging it across a worktop.

Kayleigh was on the sofa watching TV on August 6 when Vaughan burst in and started stabbing her in the stomach.

The court heard she didn’t see the knife and thought Vaughan was punching her until she felt blood pouring from the wounds.

She reminded him she had children, hoping it would bring him to his senses, but it made him more angry and he shouted: “You should have thought about that before you started s****** my friend.”

Kayleigh tried to dial 999 for help but Vaughan stopped her whispering in her ear: “Go on, grass on me and your f****** kids are next. If I can’t have you, no f***** can.”

Vaughan stormed off to a pub leaving Kayleigh for dead at her home in the village of Pentre, Rhondda, South Wales.

Kayleigh raised the alarm with neighbours and was airlifted to hospital for life-saving surgery.

She woke up at the University Hospital of Wales three days later.

The court heard she had four stab wounds to the heart and chest area, two to her stomach and one to her arm where she tried to protect herself.

Vaughan handed his bloodstained clothing to bar staff at the Pandy Inn, Tonypandy, where police arrested him after finding him “drunk and wobbly” on a barstool.

He admitted attempted murder and was given an 17-year extended sentence. He will have to serve at least two thirds of the 13-year custodial element before his case can be referred to the parole board.

Judge Eleri Rees ruled that Vaughan was a dangerous offender and told him: “You left Kayleigh bleeding and struggling to breathe. You did nothing to help her.”

The court heard Vaughan was given a 20-week jail term, suspended for a year, for assaulting Kayleigh in her home and causing criminal damage in July, 2017, a year before he tried to kill her.

Detective Inspector Arabella Rees, praised Kayleigh’s “amazing courage”.

She said after the case: “Vaughan will spend a considerable time behind bars, which is what he deserves for this brutal attack on Kayleigh in her own home.

“He left her for dead and went to the local pub for a drink in the hours that followed, despite of the desperate state that his victim was in.”

“I would like to pay tribute to Kayleigh who has shown amazing courage during her recovery and I hope that she will now be able to put this behind her.”

Sadly Kayleigh isn't the only one who has been abused. Stuart's controlling ex-wife abused him for a DECADE and stabbed him four times for taking too long to do the Christmas shop.

Meanwhile, Paul Lavelle, 50, bled to death in May 2017 after his girlfriend Sarah Lewis, 46, stabbed him in the face with a broken plate.
