Harry and William ‘barely spoke’ to one another following ‘serious rift’ over their boozing as teens, royal biographer claims

The reports have resurfaced amid rumours of a Royal feud, which is said to have been caused by former actress Meghan Markle joining the family.

But claims of tensions between the brothers started long before Meghan came on the scene in late 2016.

In her 2010 book William and Harry, Katie Nicholl said the siblings, who have a two-year age gap, fell out over boozy nights at The Rattlebone Inn, near Highgrove.

Back in January 2002, the News of the World revealed Harry had experimented marijuana the previous summer, when he was just 16, while staying at Prince Charles' country retreat.

Sources also claimed: "Earlier last year Prince Harry was involved in an incident after a fight broke out over out-of-hours drinking and was barred from the (Rattlebone) inn for a while."

Dad Charles was said to have been furious at the reports, and sent the then-teenager to a rehab clinic for a day.

In her book, Katie wrote of the events: “Harry escaped an official police warning but the incident sent shock waves through the royal family.

“It was the catalyst for the first serious rift between William and Harry, who resented the fact that he had been blamed for everything while William got away scot-free.”

According to Katie, the future king had “hardly been a model of decorum” during lock-ins at the Wiltshire pub.

William, who was on his gap year at the time, even returned to Eton in a bid to "smooth things over" with his brother, according to Katie.

She added: “William felt guilty that his brother had taken all the blame while he had come out as Mr Goody Two Shoes.

The brothers are said to be on much better terms now.
