Fantasising about your partner will not only boost your sex life…it could save your relationship

Experts have revealed that fantasising about your man is not only good news for your sex life but it makes your whole relationship more fulfilling.

Having sexual fantasies might just be the key to having a healthy and fulfilling relationship.

According to scientists at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya, Israel, dreaming about our partners could help us to engage more in "relationship-promoting activities".

In a study called "What Fantasies Can Do to Your Relationship: The Effect of Sexual Fantasies on Couple Interactions", the team conducted four tests on volunteers.

The first two involved people who were romantically involved with someone.

They were told to sexually fantasize about either their partner or someone else and then describe the content of their fantasy.

They were then asked to rate their desire to improve their relationship, both physically and emotionally.

Those who talked about their fantasy reported a greater desire to get down and dirty with their partner, compared to the others.

The next couple of tests involved getting partners to record their fantasies and relationship interactions over the course of three and six weeks respectively.

It included how often they fantasised about their partner, as well as positive and negative perceptions they had about their relationship every day.

The conclusion?

Fantasising about a partner increased their appeal and negative perceptions about the relationship declined – leading scientists to conclude that fantasies can help us to invest in our relationships more.

A 2017 study claimed that those of us who were more satisfied in our relationships were more likely to be open about our fantasies with our partners.

So the more you fantasise about your partner, the more satisfied you'll feel…and the more satisfied you are, the more likely you are to talk about your fantasies.

And that means that you're probably more likely to start living out those fantasies too.

It's no real surprise that honesty and imagination might make a relationship more fulfilling for both parties.

Watching porn is one way sexual fantasies can manifest and there's plenty of evidence to suggest that doing so can add value to relationships.

Recent studies have shown that couples who watch porn together have better relationships because of their honesty and communication.

Earlier this year, we also revealed that women who watch porn are happier than those who don't.

Rather than the act of watching porn causing problems in relationships, it's the stress of people believing that they watch too much of it that stops them from connecting with others.

Those who believe they watch too much are more likely to feel unworthy of going on dates and tend to feel less attractive.

In other words, it's way more healthy to indulge in your sexual fantasies – and be open about them – than to bottle them up.
