A collaboration between Uniqlo and JW Anderson is happening and it just might be one for the company’s history books. The Japanese brand announced today that Jonathan Anderson, who is also creative director of Loewe, will create a series of women’s and men’s wear looks in the spirit of his eponymous luxury collection at high street price points. And while the company hasn’t given too many details, we’re hoping that means a lineup heavy on his inventive shirting, knitwear and dresses.
‘Collaborations are incredibly important in design. When I think of Uniqlo, I think of things that are perfectly made, that people have spent a lot of time considering; it’s a difficult job, and I think Uniqlo do it very well,’ Anderson said in a statement. ‘Working with Uniqlo is probably the most incredible template of democracy in fashion, and it’s nice that my design can be accessible to anyone, on all different levels.’
Meanwhile, Uniqlo’s Senior Vice President Of Fast Retailing and Head of Research and Design said, ‘In partnering with JW Anderson, one of Britain’s most innovative and creative brands, we will tap into traditions while pursuing progress in designs and fabrics, to craft styles that are enduringly appealing.’
In a landscape filled with high-low collaborations from the starry ones at H&M to the New-Gen-led ones at ASOS, Uniqlo has developed a reputation for producing capsule collections that have longevity (see the enduring appeal of its Jil Sander J+ clothes from years past.)
