How Brianna Lance Nails City Style

One glance at Brianna Lance—a statuesque redhead with a sunny smile—and you automatically want to be friends with her. As a DJ, painter, musician, fashion consultant, and New York downtown cool girl, she’s a multi-hyphenate across many industries.

You’re just as likely to find her dancing the night away at a party (decked out in a floral dress and sneakers), as you are at a gallery on a Saturday morning, with her new dog Larry at her side. A true modern-day Renaissance woman, the former head designer at Reformation prefers berets to ski hats and combat boots to heels, and will never say no to a slip dress. Take a peek at a day in her life through her favourite looks.

Her Go-To Topper: “I’m obsessed with this coat because I love oversized men’s silhouettes. You can throw it over anything and it’ll look good.”

Step and Repeat: “I mostly wear men’s shoes and really unsexy shoes because I like to be comfortable. Let’s say you’re wearing a slip dress and you wear it with a fussy shoe, you’re automatically going to look like a fussy person. I want to look free. Also, you should be able to walk for a long time in whatever shoes that you’re wearing.”

Her Go-To Garment: “It could be because I’m from Texas and grew up going to barns, but I think dungarees are amazing. I have a tendency to wear clothes that a lot of little boys would wear.”

Hat’s Off: “All winter I wear berets. Out of all hats, I think they make your face look the nicest. If you put on a ski cap, you can look cool… but you can also look like a dork. A beret is so cute and feminine.”

Her Go-To Bag: “I don’t have one! I like to switch them out. I have all shades of bags so you can just match them to whatever I’m wearing.”

Quick-Change Artist: “Sometimes I’ll literally turn over a bag completely on top of another bag, let the contents fall into the second bag, and just go, ‘Done. I’m ready.'”

Her Go-to Dress: “I love prints and I love colour. But I don’t love my legs, so I go for long dresses. Everyone has their thing.”

Gut Check: “The best lesson I learned at Reformation was to not pay attention to people’s weird rules. Whatever industry you’re in, people have these set ideas about how you’re supposed to do things. But it’s really interesting to just to do things more on instinct.”

Her Nighttime Bag: “I have a lot of different silhouettes that I like, it just depends on the outfit. I love exotic skins!”

Her Go-To Trend: “I love matching sets. This printed velvet one is like wearing pyjamas, but fancier.”

Cozy Comfort: “I wear a lot of giant coats like this because I’m always freezing! And I love a silk pyjama set with a big coat on top. A lot of times I just wear sweats and a big coat – that’s my uniform in the fall.”
