Because nothing is sacred and fun with Halloween anymore, the popular e-retailer Yandy has begun to sell a sexy Halloween costume that is, basically, a Melania Trump look — with some significant adjustments, of course.
The First Lady, who's been married to President Donald Trump for over a decade, is the inspiration for the newly revealed "Model Wife" costume — a thinly-veiled iteration of the light blue Ralph Lauren ensemble she wore to Trump's presidential inauguration this past January. It was a perfectly nice outfit, political preferences (and spouses) aside. We don't need to ruin the outfit, right? But Halloween did ruin it, as it does most years.
So, how exactly did Yandy decide to sex up this look, you ask? By cutting out the front of the dress to reveal the stomach. It could honestly be a lot worse. "Inspired by a certain someone’s Inaugural ensemble by a Polo playing design legend, this blue (Tiffany anyone?) sexy take would make you welcome at any house regardless of the color from Milan to Washington," Yandy's press release boasts. "Stand by your hubby … [it's] sure to give you water cooler fodder."
The costume isn't all that elaborate, and for just under $70, you get a blue crop top with three-quarter sleeves; a high collar to tuck it into; a matching high waisted skirt; and some velcro to hold it all together. (You can go wild with your personal preferences on the heels and gloves, as neither are included.) But shoe and fabric quandaries aside, the only question we currently have is: Why is this a thing? And why is a "Model Wife" costume something anyone would want to dress up as?
Sure, the First Lady has a pretty controversial track record when it comes to her fashion choices for political occasions — in fact, it's become one of her defining traits at this point — so this might be a little wink wink, nudge nudge to acknowledge that.
Still, this costume is bad. Please don't buy it. Be a sexy ghost instead. They always kill at parties.
