Just because Selena Gomez chooses to ignore the internet trolls that flood her Instagram account, she’s always watching.
If you remember, back in June controversial designer Stefano Gabbana — one half of the Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana — commented “È proprio brutta” (which translates to “she’s so ugly”) on an Instagram photo of Gomez. Pretty rude (and not to mention completely untrue), right?

While Gomez could have addressed the comment with a Tweet or Instagram post, she waited for New York Fashion Week to get a low key clapback in. On Tuesday, Gomez wore a pin with the world “UGLY” written in crystals on it to the side of her ponytail. The hair accessory comes from London designer Ashley Williams, who has a entire collection of mostly sold-out pins in various words like “Girls” “Boys” and “100%,” (which is still available BTW).
If the hair accessory wasn’t a statement in itself, she also dressed up her pony with a braided middle part — consider this entire look a statement.

In an interview with Footwear News last month, Gomez said that while she might not acknowledge hurtful social media comments, they still affect her.
“I feel like I’m one of those people [whose body confidence gets shaken by internet trolls]. I actually am one of those people,” she told the publication. “I understand and I get what they’re feeling and what they are afraid of,” she said. “It’s all about how you feel at the end of the day. That’s my approach to myself — seeing it’s not okay that I’m not accepted, that I’m different from anybody else.”
That’s why she decides to ignore the peanut gallery and focus on herself.
“It’s all about how you feel at the end of the day,” she said. “That’s my approach to myself, seeing it’s not okay that I’m not accepted, that I’m different from anybody else. It’s okay that I’m not accepted this way. It’s okay that I’m nice and not intense. I don’t really care [about the haters]. I have to express my message to myself more than my fans. I would say [to my fans] that ‘I get it, I’m like you.”

Consider hair accessories the preferred method of clapping back at haters from here on out.
