Reviews are in for the “Battle of the Youtubers,” and They Are Not So Great

There’s been a huge uproar on social media – and especially among the Youtuber community – about the much-hyped KSI vs Logan Paul “superfight” that happened over the weekend. Among fans who posted their feelings on the match, the general sense was that the fight’s ending in a draw was “shady” and meant simply to set up additional revenue streams from a potential rematch.

For their part, Youtubers — in large numbers — have panned the fight as a rip-off. Speaking of a potential rematch, controversial but still influential Youtuber PewDiePie commented, “fool me once, okay; fool me twice, no thank you.” AnythingforViews felt “the fight was obviously rigged,” Johnnie Guilbert called it “a waste and a scam,” and BionicPIG along with dozens of others agreed.

But tech website TheVerge had its own interesting take. Calling the bout “a flawlessly executed circus of bulls**t” that was “more of a Logan Paul x KSI collaboration than a fight of genuine rivalry,” Vlad Savov — who actually traveled for TheVerge to witness the event firsthand in Manchester — wrote about how the “all for show” main event didn’t really involve any hate inside the staged ring between the two clearly self-promoting pranksters who were “fighting. However, in frighteningly ways, the fight did stir up some real violent emotions among those fans of the “two hate-loved internet clowns,” who felt strongly enough about the mock rivalry to pay for tickets to the event.
