Michelle Williams Splits From Fiancé Chad Johnson

Online celebrations for the pair took a turn when their new reality series gave viewers a peek at how Johnson feels about their racial differences.

Former Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams has called off her engagement to Pastor Chad Johnson.

While celebrating the release of her new single, "Fearless," Williams announced the split on her Instagram Story Friday, writing, "I still remain fearless. I guess I still remain single! Things didn’t work out. The healing that needs to take place is a must! I don’t wanna destroy another relationship. Blessings to him, his family and ministry. #FEARLESS."

Williams, 38, met Johnson, 41, in March of last year when she attended one of his retreats in Arizona. The two went public with their relationship four months later, and Johnson popped the question in March.

But the online celebrations for the soon-to-be husband and wife took a turn when the pair’s new reality series — "Chad Loves Michelle" — gave viewers a peek at how Johnson feels about their racial differences.

In the episode, which aired last month, Williams and Johnson were Skyping with their therapist when Williams brought up a "disagreement" they had had the night before.

"I said something to him along the lines of, ‘Well, Chad, because you are not Black, you would not understand why I communicate the way I do. Maybe because you didn’t grow up around a lot of Black people,’" she explained. "And so that was very, very offensive to Chad."

"To me, it doesn’t matter if you’re Black, white, green, yellow. It doesn’t matter," Johnson said. "If you know the other person was like, ‘I didn’t like the way you said that,’ then seek to find some understanding as to why that person didn’t like what you said. And let’s keep that the issue, not pulling all these other things, because then it feels like you’re just trying to cut."

Williams — who recently went public about her lengthy battle with depression — told their therapist that Johnson’s response to her during their disagreement was, "Did you take your meds today?"

Interrupting her then-fiancé’s attempt to explain himself, Williams shouted, "You shouldn’t go there, regardless!"

"And I don’t think you should ever go there with ‘Black’ and ‘white,’" he replied.
