LOL, That Justin Bieber Burrito Pic Fooled Us All

Last week, the internet was equal parts confused and enraged when a photo of Justin Bieber eating a burrito sideways hit Reddit. Thankfully (or unfortunately, depending on your point of view), the truth has come to light and that photo was, in fact, not real. As in, it was staged.

A company called Yes Theory took credit for it in a YouTube video this weekend. Basically, they found a Justin Bieber lookalike, flew him out to L.A., and had him pose in a variety of situations they hoped would go viral. Which, I gotta say, is pretty genius.

They planted the burrito pic on a particular subreddit, and the internet promptly ran with it. Lines were drawn, enemies were created, and an intense debate ensued.

The guy who posted the infamous photo even conducted multiple interviews alleging that he saw the real J. Biebs in the park that day, in order to further sell the validity of the photo.

In case you were like “Wait, there’s no way that’s not actually Justin Bieber,” here’s the impersonator’s Instagram. Feel free to creep and be amazed. He said in the video that he gets stopped all the time because of his doppelgänger status.

The dudes at Yes Theory said they wanted to demonstrate that faking a viral story can be done much more easily than you would imagine. Point proven, I guess!
