Little Mix Believes Popstars Have Rights to Dress Up Whatever They Want

Little Mix don’t abide by fashion rules because they believe popstars “can get away” with anything.

The girl band – featuring Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall – have attracted plenty of attention for their risque wardrobes, receiving praise and criticism in equal measure for their sexy outfits.

However, the group maintains that dressing up is one of the best parts of their job, as they have the confidence to wear whatever they like.

“Do you know what, I love being a popstar!” Jesy gushed in an interview with BBC News. “I’ll go out shopping with my best mate James and I’ll say: ‘Do you like this?’ and he’ll go, ‘Do you know what? Normally I’d say, ‘No,’ but you’re a popstar and you can wear whatever you want!’ Like, I went to buy a pair of shorts the other day; and he was like, ‘Jess, it’s not summer! Oh, but screw it – you’re a popstar!’.”

The four-piece recently ditched their clothes to pose nude for their new single “Strip”, featuring Sharaya J, with the video clip showing their naked bodies covered in the insulting words they’ve been subjected to in the past. And they hope that this bold move will help empower other women.

“This picture represents how far we’ve come. How we embrace every little thing about ourselves: Our flaws are perfect, our insecurities are what make us different. This is a journey of self-love,” Leigh-Anne explained.

“Hopefully it’ll empower anyone who doesn’t feel good about themselves. We honestly think, God, it’s really scary for little girls growing up now with social media,” Jesy added. “That’s why it’s so important for us to use a platform while we’ve got it to say to them: ‘No, look, this is normal, this is what real girls look like’.”
