Kendall Jenner went ballistic on TMZ — and to some degree gossip sites in general — that recently reported on a stalker situation at her Southern California home. Of course the addresses for the homes of reality stars like Kendall are often widely available online — often even in stories on real estate sites.
The TMZ story that Kendall is objecting to related to the return of a stalker to her house after multiple earlier break-ins. It is always difficult for entertainment-related websites to cover these stories; in avoiding them, the site can be accused of avoiding real news and in some ways neglecting reporting on some of the realities that do occur in the true, everyday lives of young celebrities.
But in publishing the stories, a media outlet like TMZ also risks hyping the bad behavior of the the stalker, as well as inadvertently sharing some private details that make it easier for copycats in the future.
Kendall’s emotional response does touch a chord given that the TMZ report seemed to have highlighted certain places on her gated-community property where there might have been some security holes – which seem to have been taken care of over the last day or so. But that can’t feel great to Kendall.
The model tweeted angrily about the TMZ story, saying
i understand what i’ve signed up for but when you release the exact location to where i live THAT is when you’re putting my life in danger”
It does appear that law enforcement has responded to the situation. Kendall has reportedly been granted a new restraining order on the stalker who broke into her property. Still, a restraining order, alone, is often not enough to give a targeted celebrity real peace of mind when dealing with a recurring offender like Kendall’s current stalker seems to be.
