While most of the world was fixated on one specific holiday on April 20, Katy Perry was celebrating a lesser-known event associated with the date: National Look-Alike Day. And while we already know Perry to be a master of disguise — who could forget her exceedingly convincing Hillary Clinton getup this past Halloween, complete with prosthetics? — her latest attempt to achieve look-alike status didn’t take much effort at all.
So who is Perry’s new doppelgänger? None other than Food Network sensation and unofficial mayor of Flavortown, Guy Fieri. Fieri, as you well know, is the host of shows like the seminal Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and Guy’s Grocery Games, but perhaps his most recognizable attribute is his always-spiky, ultra-bright bleach-blonde hair and ever-present sunglasses.
Meanwhile, Perry is a veritable hair chameleon — she’s sported every shade from red to purple to blue to her classic nearly black hue, and rocked them all with style. But her latest transformation involved chopping her already-blonde locks from bob to pixie into an even shorter pixie.
To attain Fieri’s signature look, Perry merely styled her own ‘do into some stiff spikes and added a pair of huge shades that Fieri would likely describe as “money.” Perry posted the side-by-side photo of herself next to Fieri to Instagram with the caption “happy #420, #nationallookalikeday and now #nevergettinglaidday @guyfieri.” Fieri’s goatee and Donkey Sauce–smothered dishes sadly did not make an appearance in Perry’s re-creation.
It should come as no surprise that Perry manages to look incredible in this unconventional style. And even Guy, for his part, has said in the past that his now iconic style is simply just him doing him.
He once told CBS, “I didn’t do the look to be on TV, and I don’t keep the look because I’m on TV. It’s just the way that I like to look. It’s just how I like to flow. I wear baseball caps a lot. There’s been quite a few conversations between me and my wife; she’d like to see my hair brown again…. I know people want there to be more sensationalism behind the look, but there’s no design. Trust me.”
And trust Guy, we do (and clearly, so does Katy). So much so that we’d board his bus to Flavortown anytime, anywhere. Now pass the Trash Can Nachos, please.
